Dr. David Risinger was presented with the Gold-Headed Cane Award by the McLennan County Medical Society at a banquet on Friday, May 20 at BASE at Extraco Events Center. His father, Dr. Don Risinger, received the award in 2003 and was there to hand him the 2022 cane. This was the 21st year the member physicians of the McLennan County Medical Society nominated and voted for one of their colleagues to receive this award. Based on a tradition that originated in England in the 1600’s the qualifications of the recipient include professional standing, good citizenship and personal integrity and is a symbol of respect, truth, culture and art in the medical profession. Here in the United States, many larger cities have carried it on to honor an outstanding physician with a long history of commitment to quality medicine in their community.
Dr. Risinger attended Baylor University before finishing medical school at UTHSC in San Antonio. He completed his residency at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, where he served as Chief Resident before joining his father’s practice, Hillcrest X-Ray Physicians, in Waco, now Radiology Consultants of Texas, in 1993. In addition, Dr. Risinger has served on the MCC Radiology Technology Advisory board of directors, as a mentor for Waco Family Medicine residents, as a CTSEF judge for the McLennan County Medical Society, of which he’s been a longtime member, and has been recognized as Best Radiologist by the Wacoan magazine’s “Best of Waco” for multiple years.
Dr. Risinger is married to his high school sweetheart and has 4 children.
