Stephen H. Corwin, MD was presented with the McLennan County Medical Society’s first annual Presidential Distinguished Service Award at a banquet on Thursday, December 11 at the Baylor Club at McLane Stadium. Chosen to receive this award by the MCMS President and Board of Directors, Dr. Corwin, a retired Urologist, has a long history of service in the medical community and in civic endeavors. He has served as President of the McLennan County Medical Society, and has long served on their Board of Directors, currently serving as Chairman of the Public Grievance/Peer Review/Ethics & Credentials Committee.
Dr. Corwin, an Eagle Scout, attended Wake Forest Medical School in North Carolina, completed his residency in Adult and Pediatric Urology and in 1970, arrived in Waco to set up practice with his brother. He served on the Waco Family Practice Foundation Board – donating office space to Waco Family Practice program, as the President of the Providence Hospital Medical Staff and is currently a consultant to the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners. In 2004, he was selected by his peers as a Texas Super Doctor and listed in Texas Monthly magazine.
Instrumental in its development, Dr. Corwin is a founding director of the Cameron Park Zoo. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Zoological Society and is a past President. He has served as President of the Waco Symphony Association twice, Chairman of the Waco Symphony Foundation, on numerous community boards for Baylor University and the City of Waco, and is currently active with the Greater Waco Chamber of Commerce Art Alliance’s initiative to help develop a formal Performing Arts Center in Waco.
Dr. Corwin has been married to wife, Rusty, for 50 years. They have 2 sons and 7 grandchildren.
